New Strategic Advisory Council to Advance Asian American Studies

Associate Professor Lok Siu, Chair of the Asian American Research Center at UC Berkeley (AARC) and Program Coordinator of Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies (AAADS), announced the formation of a new Strategic Advisory Council comprised of community members invested in the work and growth of Asian American Studies.

The members of the Strategic Advisory Council are:

  • Jocelyn Surla Banaria, Executive Director of the Academic Senate, UCB
  • Charles Huang, Chair, Board of Trustees, Berkeley Foundation
  • Jenny Kao, Chief of Staff to the President, UCOP
  • Eunice Kwon, Director, Asian Pacific American Student Development (APASD), UCB
  • Donald K. Tamaki, Senior Counsel, Minami Tamaki LLP
  • Phil Ting, California Assemblymember
  • Khatharya Um, Former AAADS Program Coordinator, Associate Dean of L&S, UCB

The council plans on meeting twice a year with virtual meetings as needed. Members will advise and support to Chair on the strategic development of Asian American Studies; provide feedback on strategic planning; identify and facilitate growth opportunities; help ensure the sustainability of Asian American Studies at UC Berkeley; and assist in the search and assessment of the AARC Chair.
